Several old civilisations have been living in the Marina Alta, region of Alicante, leaving their traces in the area. You can visit the Roman baths "Baños de la Reina".
The old quarter of Calpe is behind the old walls, built in the 15th century to defend the city against attackers. Near from the Moorish quarter of "El Arrabal", part of the medieval walled precinct is still preserved, some fronts and the large Tower of Pesa.
There are also religious monuments that are very important such as the: Church of Vírgen de las Nieves from the 15th century, which is the only Gothic-Mudejar style church of Valencia, and the hermitates of La Cometa and San Salvador from the 17th century.
Calpe is a very important tourist destination on the Costa Blanca with its soft climate and its 11 kilometres of beautiful coastline surrounded by the cliffs, with beaches and coves, a marina and a beautiful natural environment.

Gastronomy of Calpe
Calpe's traditional cooking is based on the typical healthy rice and fish . Apart from the paella there are other rice dishes, with vegetables, meat, etc… A traditional dish is the "casserole and Llauna de Calpe" a kind of fish stew. Every dish can be accompanied by the wines of the region.
Calpe's cuisine is also based especially on dishes whose main ingredient are the tasty fish from the bay (monkfish, mackerel, octopus, sardines, etc). The Llauna of Calp and Arròs of Senyoret are the most representative, and many restaurants in town offer it in his letters as a specialty.
